Since I've been out of the hobby I have become quite into DIY projects involving raspberry Pi or Arduino. I've built a lot of sim racing equipment 3D printers and more. I'm thinking of doing the reef pie project as my aquarium controller. has anyone done it? the actual project itself does not look that hard but I'm wondering how the software is on the tablet and the overall usability of it.

Hi Danny, I did assemble my Arduino Controller 10 years ago was a simple
lighting controller with sunrise and sunset
also had temperature reading and controller, PH reading,
and a small 3 lines LCD screen, all the modification to the program was done through the PC and the arduino software... No tablet
unfortunately, back Then there was NOT Internet connection or bluetooth, that is why I switched to Apex... but I know today. you can build your own "Apex"...
Anyway that was long time ago... I don't know. today what's out there,
if yiu are willing to assemble a basic one maybe will cost half of the price of an apex.. and maybe with internet connection too

Reef angel had an arduino based system. Since then, arduinos have come a long way. Pis likely s better option. Especifically now that you can get a 7" screen for $60
