It looks like cyano but it’s like a carpet of tiny purple polyp looking cloves image.jpg

I found out what they are. Purple clove polyps. I can’t believe it’s actually the name. Online sources recommend tuxedo urchins or a laser to eradicate them.

Nuke the rocks!!! They will eventually cover everything in your system including equipment. I had them about a year or so ago and pulled any rock that had them gave them a acid bath. Soaked them rinsed them and put them back in the tank a couple days later not one has returned. If they get to the point of traveling throughout the whole system you will never get rid of them. That being said they won't " kill" most corals with the exception of some but they will stop corals from encrusting.

I shut down a 75g after only 2 years due to these blue stars. Work was chaotic and didn’t have the time to get ahead of them. They totally smothered all Zoa’s and started to spawn in the tank, looked like snow and covered all rocks and even covered frag plugs up on frag racks very quickly.

Creeping purple or blue anthelia need to be scrubbed, it's a pest unless growing on a rock by itself avoiding main rockscape
