This is what I believe happened to this cleaner wrasse. He got slashed by a tang. I have seen him irritate the kole to a point where it would chase the wrasse away. It looked really bad at first but it slowly healing. So next time another reefer tells me his tang cut another one to pieces in his/ her system... I won’t even doubt it.

I would never do it because I don't know what I'm doing but my tangs were already like that when I got them...

But all my tangs are gentle Giants except for that stupid scopus and he's the only one that still has his razor blade

of course lol.. I'm not a fan of the idea. I would rather try to introduce everyone together at once and undertock the tank.

interesting, I've never heard of people taking the barb off the tail. Seems cruel to me. How would you even do this?

I understand they do it for shipping purposes so they don't cut the bag

I've never checked my fish to see if this was done to them, never thought to do that. I guess it's no crueler than de-clawing a cat. Oh wait, that's not done anymore, is it? What might the human analogy be, a lobotomy for the angry or cutting the tongue off the sharp-witted? This is a friendly forum so I won't take offence to being called a hypocrite for having an aquarium in the first place!
